THE WEEKEND'S BEST
September 11, 2005

NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB Vince Young, University of Texas

TOP QUARTERBACK

Cody Hodges, Texas Tech

In his first start ever for the Red Raiders, the senior did not disappoint his highly-successful predecessors. Hodges completed 29 of 37 passes for 454 yards, 4 TDs, and no picks in a 56-3 win over Florida International.

Runner-Up: Sam Keller, Arizona State

TOP RUNNING BACK

Tyrell Sutton, Northwestern

The true freshman out of Akron, Ohio propelled the Wildcats to a huge win over in-state rival NIU on Saturday. Sutton ran 30 times for a total of 214 yards (7.1 ypc) and four TDs as NU took down the Huskies 38-37.

Runner-Up: Garrett Wolfe, Northern Illinois

TOP WIDE RECEIVER

Robert Jordan, California

With a new QB taking over for the Bears this week, the sophomore stepped up to lead the way in Seattle. Jordan hauled in 11 passes for 192 yards and a trio of touchdowns as Cal took down Washington 56-17.

Runner-Up: Hank Baskett, New Mexico

TOP TEAM

Texas

Led by the play of QB Vince Young and the three FGs of kicker David Pino, the Longhorns went into Columbus and came away with a huge 25-22 victory over Ohio State. UT is now 2-0 and just three weeks away from Oklahoma.

Runner-Up: (tie) Notre Dame and Clemson

TOP GAME

LSU over Arizona State

Down three points with just over a minute to go and facing a fourth down, the Tigers' JaMarcus Russell found Early Doucet open in the endzone for a 39-yard TD pass. ASU's last drive was stopped, and Les Miles earned his first LSU win.

Runner-Up: Northwestern over Northern Illinois

TOP UPSET

SMU over TCU

After the Frogs went into Norman and took down Oklahoma in week one, no one considered that a trip to Dallas would be a challenge for TCU. The Mustangs, led by DeMyron Martin's three TDs, would have nothing of it and downed TCU 21-10.

Runner-Up: Ohio over Pittsburgh
