TEAM PREVIEWS
NAVY
Last Season: 10-2
Starters Returning: 2 offense, 4 defense
Projected wins: STAN, at Rice, at Duke, AF, KENT, TEMP, Army
Projected losses: at ND
Toss-Ups: MD, at RUT, Tulane
PROJECTED RECORD: 8-3
BOTTOM LINE: The Midshipmen had an incredible 2004 season but must replace sixteen starters. A friendly schedule should keep Navy in line for a possible bowl selection.
NOTRE DAME
Last Season: 6-5
Starters Returning: 10 offense, 3 defense
Projected wins: Navy, SYR, at STAN
Projected losses: at PITT, at MICH, at PUR, USC, TN
Toss-Ups: MICHST, at WA, BYU
PROJECTED RECORD: 5-6
BOTTOM LINE: New head coach Charlie Weis does not find the stables empty at Notre Dame, but the schedule is again incredibly difficult. The defense must step up.
ARMY
Last Season: 2-9 / 2-6
Starters Returning: 5 offense, 6 defense
Projected wins: MASS
Projected losses: at BC, ISU, CONN, at TCU
Toss-Ups: BAY, CMU, at Akron, at AF, ARKST
PROJECTED RECORD: 3-8
BOTTOM LINE: Bobby Ross has a long way to go and not a lot to work with. This year's schedule has a large number of games, as many as six, that could be wins if this team comes together.
TEMPLE
Last Season: 2-9 / 1-5
Starters Returning: 4 offense, 6 defense
Projected wins: (none)
Projected losses: at AZST, at WISC, Toledo, at BGSU, MD, Miami, at CLEM, VA, MIA(OH)
Toss-Ups: MTSU, at Navy
PROJECTED RECORD: 1-10
BOTTOM LINE: Getting the Big East boot is just the latest of the problems that are Temple football. The Owls will struggle to find a game to win this year.
