THE WEEKEND'S BEST
Weekend of October 16, 2004

TOP QB

Drew Tate, Iowa

Tate led his Hawkeyes to a huge win over Ohio State Saturday. The sophomore from Baytown, TX completed 26 of 39 passes for 331 yards while throwing 3 TDs without an INT.

Runner-Up: Alex Smith, Utah

TOP RB

Carlton Jones, Army

Jones led Army to a road upset of South Florida this weekend. The junior had 18 rushes on the day for 225 yards (12.5 YPC) and scored 5 of the 6 Black Knight touchdowns.

Runner-Up: Mike Hart, Michigan

TOP WR

Geoff McArthur, California

McArthur, one of the nation's top wide receivers, hauled in 9 catches Saturday in the Bears' victory over UCLA. The senior totaled 163 yards (18.1 YPC) and 2 TDs on the day.

Runner-Up: T.J. Acree, Boise State

TOP TEAM

Iowa

Despite being down to their fifth- and sixth-string RBs and taking on an Ohio State team desperate for a win, the Hawkeyes dominated OSU behind the play of sophomore QB Drew Tate. Iowa is now 4-2 on the season.

Runner-Up: Michigan State

TOP GAME

Wisconsin at Purdue

SCS.com didn't select this one as the Game of the Week for nothing. UW had the lead at the half, gave it up in the third and fourth quarters, and then stole a defensive TD with just two minutes remaining to pull out the victory.

Runner-Up: Louisville at Miami

TOP UPSET

Texas A&M over (15) Oklahoma State

Since losing at Utah to start the season, A&M has stormed back and is now a major bowl contender. The Aggies have won their last five games, including Saturday's victory at OSU, by an average of 22 points each.

Runner-Up: Alabama over Southern Miss
