The final weekend of the 2006-2007 college hoops weekend is upon us, and many teams' conference title and NCAA Tournament dreams ride upon their results over the course of the next couple of days. League crowns in the ACC, Big East, and Big XII are all still up for grabs, as are numerous Tournament berths that can be claimed or thrown back in the hat by teams on the bubble all across the country. With conference tournaments also on the sltae this weekend, it's sure to be an action-packed couple of days! MUST-SEE GAMES Michigan State at Wisconsin The Big Ten title goes to Ohio State, but these two are among the best the league had to offer this year. The Spartans were rolling until a loss at Michigan earlier this week, while UW is also coming off a disappointment on the road at Ohio State last weekend. Texas at Kansas The Longhorns are fresh off an incredible double-OT win over Texas A&M earlier this week, and now with an upset on the road against the Jayhawks, Rick Barnes' squad could clinch a tie for the Big XII title. KU, meanwhile, clinches the outright championship with a victory. Tennessee at Georgia This may be the last chance for the Bulldogs. They are 8-7 in a competitive SEC East and could use this win over the NCAA-bound Volunteers, fresh off an upset of Florida, to pull themselves above .500 in SEC play for good. Southern Cal at Washington State The Trojans lost a disappointing matchup on the road at Washington Thursday night, so they'd like to get back on track with a nice road win to close out the regular season. The Cougars have already locked up the second seed in the Pac-10. Pittsburgh at Marquette The Panthers come into the weekend tied atop the Big East standings with Georgetown and could clinch no worse than a share of the crown with a road win over the Eagles. Marquette, meanwhile, is looking for their 10th Big East win and hoping to create some pre-Tournament momentum. Kentucky at Florida What has happened to the Gators? Suddenly UF doesn't look as unbeatable after dropping three of their last four games. However, all of those losses have been on the road, and this game against UK is at home in Gainesville. Florida needs a win to protect their #1 seed. Boston College at Georgia Tech The Eagles still have an outside shot at earning a share of the ACC title, but the most likely scenario has BC finishing a game back of the champ. Tech, meanwhile, is fresh off a huge win over North Carolina and would drastically improve their NCAA hopes with another impressive victory. Duke at North Carolina Neither team has lived up to expectations this season, as it appears the Heels will fail to win the conference title most expected them to. However, it's still Duke/UNC which means the stakes are high and the crowd will be rowdy. OTHER TOP MATCHUPS SATURDAY Florida State at Miami - 11:00 AM CST Any outside shot the Noles have at the NCAAs evaporates with a loss here. Connecticut at Georgetown - 11:00 AM CST Hoyas need the win to guarantee themselves at least an ACC title share. Illinois at Iowa - 11:05 AM CST Loss here would make the Illini's NCAA situation a bit more iffy. Virginia at Wake Forest - 12:00 PM CST Victory for the Cavs gives them at least a share of the ACC crown. Oklahoma State at Baylor - 12:30 PM CST Cowboys can't afford a loss like this after their recent struggles. UCLA at Washington - 1:00 PM CST Last pre-Tournament test for the Pac-10 regular season champs. Syracuse at Villanova - 1:00 PM CST Cats probably need this one worse than the Orange. Auburn at Mississippi - 1:00 PM CST Winner here claims a share of the SEC West title. Northwestern at Purdue - 1:15 PM CST Boilers' NCAA dreams stay alive with a win. Oklahoma at Kansas State - 2:30 PM CST Must-win for the Cats if they're to go dancing. Arizona at Stanford - 2:30 PM CST Both are on the bubble-in now but would like to solidify their status. Ohio State at Michigan - 3:00 PM CST Win over their arch-rival (and Big Ten champ) could put UM in the dance. Missouri at Texas A&M - 3:00 PM CST Aggies need this win and a Kansas loss to share the Big XII title. Arkansas at Vanderbilt - 3:00 PM CST Hogs might turn some heads with this win as it would move them to 7-9 in the SEC. Texas Tech at Iowa State - 7:00 PM CST Raiders could really use this one to bolster their resume. SUNDAY
Clemson at Virginia Tech - 12:00 PM CST Must-win for Tigers to have any NCAA shot at all. Alabama at Mississippi State - 1:00 PM CST Victor shares the SEC West crown with Auburn/Mississippi winner. |
