With Thanksgiving behind us, the college hoops non-conference slate really begins to hit stride this week, led by the annual ACC-Big Ten challenge. This year, that event bring us a number of huge pre-Christmas showdowns, like the matchups between Indiana and Duke in Durham and Ohio State and North Carolina in Chapel Hill. There are also a number of other interesting out-of-conference meetings dotting this week's schedule, such as Oregon's cross-country trip to Georgetown and Arkansas's trek northward to Missouri. [ Must-See Games in Orange ] Michigan at NC State - Monday ACC-Big Ten challenge begins with this matchup between two squads with much to prove. Holy Cross at Syracuse - Monday Crusaders have been a frequent Tournament team in recent years and have yet to lose this season. Marquette at Valparaiso - Monday Fresh off a CBE title win over Duke, Eagles must visit a solid Valpo team from the always-tough Mid-Continent Conference. Maryland at Illinois - Tuesday Neither has lost thus far, though the Terps have the more impressive resume to date. Florida State at Wisconsin - Tuesday Both are coming off weekend losses and hope to rebound with an impressive victory here. Penn State at Georgia Tech - Tuesday Jackets were impressive in a second place finish in Maui and now return home to take on a Lions team hoping to step it up a notch this season. UAB at Western Kentucky - Tuesday Both teams have legitimate NCAA aspirations and could use a RPI-boosting victory like this to help the cause come March. Oral Roberts at Tulsa - Tuesday Quality cross-town showdown features two one-loss teams, including ORU who knocked off Kansas two weeks ago. Indiana at Duke - Tuesday Arguably the second-best ACC-Big Ten matchup, this is as tough as the early-season tests can get for first-year head coach Kelvin Sampson. UNLV at Arizona - Tuesday Rebels have hopes of bringing some of that old glamour back to the program this year, and a win like this could earn the squad such respect. Iowa at Virginia Tech - Wednesday Hawkeyes have struggled with the tough slate so far, while Tech hopes to finally take the next step this season. Michigan State at Boston College - Wednesday Spartans gave impressive performances against both Texas and Maryland, while BC has surprisingly struggled thus far. Virginia at Purdue - Wednesday Boilers look like a team on the rise in the Big Ten, while UVA has its sights set on getting back to the Tournament. Oregon at Georgetown - Wednesday One of the best cross-country battles on the schedule this season, this one could be one of the top games of the entire week. Iowa State at Northern Iowa - Wednesday The Cyclones have yet to lose but haven't played a team as good as the Panthers yet either. Butler at Valparaiso - Wednesday No team has been more impressive than the Bulldogs this November. It's the second straight tough test for Valpo. Wake Forest at Air Force - Wednesday The Deacons are pleased with a 5-0 start, but getting another victory out west won't be easy against this quality Falcons team. Ohio State at North Carolina - Wednesday Probably the best matchup of the week, this one features two teams with legitimate Final Four chances. Will the Heels rebound from their loss to Gonzaga in NYC? Clemson at Minnesota - Wednesday The Tigers have gotten off to an impressive start but could use a win like this to bolster their resume come selection time. Kansas State at California - Wednesday Both teams look capable of making NCAA runs this season. Will the Bears ride the momentum from Alaska to another victory? Arkansas at Missouri - Thursday Arkansas is looking better all the time, but this tough test against the Hogs' former top assistant should provide both with a great early-season challenge. |
