SEPTEMBER SURPRISES, OCTOBER REALITIES
September 30, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
In the midwest, a chill has overtaken the evenings as the calendar prepares to turn to October, the middle month of the college football season. The days of 90 degree temperatures and hot summer nights are gone and replaced with a month or more of absolutely perfect weather before the chill of winter begins to roll in. Not only does the calendar change signify a change in the season at this time of year....[MORE]
REPORT: LAST BIG NON-CONFERENCE TEST
September 26, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
The last non-conference game may be a cupcake for some teams (see Big Ten conference, in general, this week), but for Oklahoma, their last test before Texas was a tough one. Their first roadtrip from Norman found them in Cincinnati playing a Bearcat team with their backs against the wall after a 1-2 start. The Bearcats were struggling on defense, but you could feel in the air that the Bearcats believed this was the game....[MORE]
GAMEDAY PREVIEW: OKLAHOMA VS CINCINNATI
September 25, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Two years ago in Norman, Oklahoma doubled up on Cincinnati 52-26 in a game that was not surprising to many around the country. However, the Bearcats went on to go 11-2 that year and 12-0 to start last season, and all of a sudden this return trip to Cincinnati did not look so easy for an Oklahoma team coming off a 7-5 year. However, the table is set for the Sooners again as Oklahoma has survived a murderer's row....[MORE]
WHAT THE HECK?! MASCOT, COACH PROBLEMS
September 23, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Somehow even when I "take a week off" to go watch some college football apart from my writing duties, I still manage to end up seeing one of the most compelling stories of the season in person. Just going to be that kind of year, folks. My family and I went up to the Horseshoe on Saturday afternoon and walked into the stadium right as the Buckeyes walked onto the field. Then the infamous Bobcat Attack was on! As Ohio....[MORE]
THE ONLY REAL MONSTER IS IN THE FCS
September 16, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Well there's always some quirky name we must come up with for a big college football weekend, and this past weekend was dubbed "Monster Saturday." Well the only thing that stands out as Monster after a week of mostly lackluster games is the FCS in general. Only one week from North Dakota State knocking off Kansas in coach Tunrer Gill's first game, the FCS stood tall against two more BCS conference foes as....[MORE]
GAMEDAY REPORT: RIVALRY RESTORED
September 11, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Two coaches entered Notre Dame stadium with a lot on the line. For Brian Kelly, it was quick success at his beloved Notre Dame. For Rich Rodriguez, it was job security on the line again. With Notre Dame losing their quarterback Dayne Crist after the first drive of the game, it took a heroic effort to slow the Wolverine spread. But that is precisely what the Irish did, and despite QB Denard Robinson shattering his absurd records....[MORE]
GAMEDAY PREVIEW: MICHIGAN AT NOTRE DAME
September 11, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Welcome back readers and Happy Saturday to you! Apologies for the later than expected preview, but sometimes that's just how it goes. Monster Saturday is upon us and as I mentioned in the weekly article, I will be headed to South Bend by the time you read this. What lies before us is a game that could define the path for two top college football programs looking for direction under relatively new head coaches....[MORE]
REMEMBER THE TITANS - A HUGE WEEK LOOMS
September 8, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Back in 2005 (my first full season at SCS.com), the second week of the season brought a massive opportunity for the Big Ten Conference to make statements in threee absolutely massive games highlighting the best week of non-conference play that season. On paper, Iowa looked like favorites going to Iowa State, Michigan was also favored to beat Notre Dame, and Ohio State was hosting the most important game of the year....[MORE]
NO MORE DRAMA - THE 2010 SEASON BEGINS
September 2, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
As mentioned in the offseason review article prior to our previews this month, the 2010 offseason was all about drama from Pete Carroll leaving USC to fall apart in front of the NCAA to even this past week when Fresno State and Nevada bailed the WAC to join the MWC, and North Carolina wavering from the most promising season in many years to a train wreck in front of more NCAA investigations. Even with all that drama....[MORE]
2010 NCAA FOOTBALL PREVIEW: SEC
September 1, 2010
By David, SCS.com Staff Writer
Last year was a strange year for the SEC, as the conference has never really had two teams run away with each division to the extent that Florida and Alabama did (LSU was the only other conference team with a winning record at 5-3!). The showdown turned into a rout as Alabama gained a little revenge in their second-straight conference title game against Florida, and just like the Gators, the Crimson Tide kept the winning streak....[MORE]
