PREVIEWING THE 2005 BIG EAST
July 28, 2005
By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
Two Big East members jumped ship after the 2004 season, but three new schools, Louisville, South Florida, and Cincinnati, have expanded the conference's football playing members from seven to eight. The Cardinals, who were CUSA champs three of their final five seasons in that league, appear to be one of the top contenders for this fall's Big East title. Also watch out for Pittsburgh and West Virginia....[MORE]

University of Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm recently took time to answer a few questions from SCS.com. Brohm, who shared the QB duties with senior Stefan LeFors last season, is a returning sophomore and one of the Big East's top signal-callers. July 28, 2005
By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
Five teams have left CUSA since the end of the 2005 football season, but six new members are onboard for 2006. UTEP, who moves over from the WAC, appears to be one of the top contenders to make the first-ever CUSA title game. Other teams joining the league this fall are Rice, Tulsa, Marshall, SMU, and UCF. Along with the Miners, look for Southern Miss, UAB, Memphis, and Houston to make a run in '06....[MORE]

By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
Darrell Hackney recently took time to answer a few questions from SCS.com. Hackney has become one of the top signal-callers in Conference USA and is a returning senior in Birmingham this year. After throwing for nearly 3,100 yards, earning Third Team All-CUSA honors, and leading the team to seven wins in 2004, even bigger things are expected from the Atlanta, Georgia native this fall....[MORE]

Just as Utah dominated the Mountain West a year ago with star senior QB Alex Smith, New Mexico hopes to do the same with stud senior RB DonTrell Moore in 2005. Moore is one of fifteen starters returning for the Lobos this fall. Wyoming also appears to be one of the front-runners in the MWC this year. By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
Four WAC members from a year ago have left town for Conference USA, but three new members, Idaho, New Mexico State, and Utah State, are in place for 2005. None of those three appear to be ready to contend for this fall's conference title, however. That will be left up to just two teams, the same two teams who have led the way in the WAC for the last several years in fact: Boise State and Fresno State....[MORE]

July 21, 2005
By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
University of Tulsa wide receiver Ashlan Davis recently took time to answer a few questions from SCS.com. Davis is one of the nation's top kick returners and is a returning senior for the Golden Hurricane. The Mesquite, Texas native shattered a NCAA record last fall by returning five kicks for touchdowns (the previous record was three) and needs just two returns in 2005 to break the NCAA career mark....[MORE]
PREVIEWING THE 2005 INDEPENDENTS
July 19, 2005
By Jonathan, SCS.com Editor
Offseason conference shake-ups mean that the Independent population has doubled from two to four. Temple departed the Big East, and Army left Conference USA, joining Notre Dame and Navy as the only four D-I teams with the Independent distinction. The Midshipmen won ten games a year ago, as many as the other three teams combined. Will they be able to accomplish similar feats in 2005?....[MORE]
