TOBACCO ROAD RIVALRY AND TOURNEY TIME
February 28, 2011
By Daniel, SCS.com Staff Writer
Three weeks ago, I said North Carolina would lose at Cameron Indoor Stadium by 30 points. Remember that? I certainly do. I couldn’t have been more wrong, as Duke needed a late comeback in that game to avoid the upset. I’d like to take this opportunity to admit I was wrong about North Carolina. Roy Williams’ team didn’t benefit from a weak ACC schedule, and it’s not overrated. Instead, the team has simply improved....[MORE]
THE WEEKLY DISH REVISITS THE BUBBLE
February 23, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
For the remainder of the regular season, the Weekly Dish will focus primarily on the bubble. The shifts and changes within the major conferences are noted while there are more mid-majors making their way to the dance. Currently, there are 24 teams that can be considered solidly in while the 32 teams leading their conference are for the time being are considered automatic bids. That means there are currently....[MORE]
MOUNTAIN WEST SHOWDOWN HEADLINES WEEK
February 21, 2011
By Daniel, SCS.com Staff Writer
It’s debatable whether or not BYU and San Diego State have actually played this season. After all, the first meeting in January wasn’t really on television—unless you consider the CBS College Sports Network real TV. I certainly don’t receive that channel, and I’m not sure many fans do. So I saw exactly zero minutes of BYU’s victory at the Marriot Center that night. We’re all in luck this Saturday, though. The real CBS channel....[MORE]
TEXAS' ASCENDANCE HEADLINES WEEKLY DISH
February 16, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
As Ohio State suffered its first loss of the year at Wisconsin on Saturday, the debate opened up as to whom should be the four number one seeds come tournament time. Last week, the Weekly Dish took its first in-depth look at the bubble and this week, we’ll briefly revisit it. While conference play is more than halfway over, there are some teams that continue to see their stock rise as others can expect to be wearing road....[MORE]
RIVALRIES, BRACKET BUSTERS AND MORE
February 14, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
I understand this particular Bracket Buster match-up will not decide a conference championship, and I also understand that there are games on this week’s schedule involving better teams. However, there’s another element to the Utah State/St. Mary’s contest Saturday night that’s unlike no other game this week. This game is about respect and a battle for national recognition in the West. It’s about proving the doubters....[MORE]
WEEKLY DISH BREAKS DOWN THE NCAA BUBBLE
February 9, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
In most cases, conference play is more than halfway over. There is plenty of debate over who the best teams in the country are, but few have begun to examine the bubble. This week, the Weekly Dish will give a first hand look at the bubble as it stands now. As of now, the 32 conference leaders are projected as the conference champs giving each an automatic bid. There are 24 other schools that can be considered solidly....[MORE]
OHIO STATE PERFECTION ON THE LINE
February 7, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
Ohio State needs seven more victories to complete an undefeated regular season. The Buckeyes won in Champaign and avoided an upset at The Barn in Minnesota; they’ve won at Florida, annihilated Purdue at home and swept arch-rival Michigan. But Ohio State faces its toughest task of the season Saturday afternoon when it heads to the Kohl Center. You don’t need me to tell you how often opponents win in Madison....[MORE]
MASSIVE UPSET WEEK AS 18 OF TOP 25 LOSE
February 1, 2011
By Mike, SCS.com Staff Writer
It was once again quite a week in NCAA Basketball. Jimmer Fredette’s 43 point effort on Wednesday night handed San Diego State its first loss of the year. Ohio State staved off a late Northwestern rally to remain unbeaten. While number one survived, the week still saw one upset after another. Syracuse fell to 18-4 after an 18-0 start while UCF fell for the sixth straight game after a 14-0 beginning to the season. Still a week of upsets....[MORE]
