BOWL PREVIEW SERIES: PART II
December 14, 2005

POINSETTIA BOWL
Colorado State vs Navy

SCS.com This game brings two teams from opposite sides of the country together in a battle to end all battles. Navy is coming off of a solid thumping of their rival, the Army Black Knights, while the CSU Rams are coming off of a nail-biter versus the UNLV Rebels.

Navy's Keys to the Game

In order to win this game, Navy must be able to move the ball on the ground. In order to do this, they will have to take some chances and attempt to move the ball through the air, which will spread the defense thin. At times this season, their aerial attack has faltered, and the only saving grace has been the explosiveness of their backfield. They must also limit the amount of yards for both the CSU ground and air games, which can be somewhat difficult as balanced as the Rams tend to be.

Colorado State's Keys to the Game

In order to be successful in this contest, CSU must get the ball into the hands of running back Kyle Bell. If Bell has a good game, as he is liable to do, then the combination of Justin Holland and David Anderson will hit homerun after homerun. Again balance is the key for the Rams. They must also force the Middies to beat them through the air, a task that could be too much for the boys from Norfolk.

FORT WORTH BOWL
Kansas vs Houston

SCS.com Once again, a severely weakened CUSA will attempt to hang with the big boys. Kevin Kolb leads the vaunted Houston offense against the downright nasty defense of Mark Mangino's Jayhawks.

Houston's Keys to the Game

In order to beat the Jayhawks, Kolb is going to have to keep the ball out of ball-hawking cornerback Charles Gordon's hands. Gordon is a former receiver, so he understands the routes and where to be when the ball is thrown. Houston must also be able to hold the Hawk's offense, which has struggled tremendously this year, in check.

Kansas's Keys to the Game

If Kansas even had a sub-par offense, then they would have a much better chance of beating the Cougars. Unfortunately, they don't. If Mangino's clubs is to win this game, they must be able to score points. As good as Kansas's defense is, it makes no difference if they are on the field for sixty minutes. If the defense tires early, then the Hawks could be in for a long day.

HAWAII BOWL
Nevada vs UCF

SCS.com George O'Leary's squad comes in after a shelling at the hands of Tulsa, but they are riding on the fact that they even made it to a bowl. After a drastic turnaround from last season, they are just happy to be here.

UCF's Keys to the Game

QB Steven Moffett must let the game come to him if his team is to have a chance. In the CUSA Championship Game, he became too excited and forced far too many plays, which in turn dug his team into a hole. The ball needs to be given to tailback Kevin Smith early and often as a solid running game could demoralize the Wolfpack.

Nevada's Keys to the Game

To win this game, Nevada just needs to hand the ball to its tailback. Hubbard was exceptional versus Fresno State and UCF provides a "golden" opportunity for him to showcase his talents. They also need to pressure UCF QB Steven Moffett, who tends to make mistakes when flustered.
