Jonathan’s College Football Predictions
August 23-26
New Mexico State at Louisville
Louisville QB Dave Raggone could be leading the nation’s surprise team of 2001, while New Mexico State is trying to improve a 3-8 record from 2000. The Cardinals should win C-USA in 2001, and I think Raggone and Louisville trounce all over the Aggies on Thursday night.
Louisville 46 New Mexico State 13

TCU at Nebraska
Led by QB Eric Crouch, the Cornhuskers are a legitimate national title contender in 2001. The Horned Frogs of TCU are coming off a 10-2 season, but must deal with the loss of coach Dennis Franchione. The road doesn’t began easily, as the Huskers should dominate this one.
Nebraska 38 TCU 14

Virginia at Wisconsin
Both of these teams should be around the .500 mark in 2001. New Cavaliers coach Al Groh will try to take his team to a bowl in his first year at Virginia. Wisconsin must recover from the loss of RB Michael Bennett and CB Jamal Fletcher. The home field advantage will probably decide this one, as the Badgers pull away in the 2nd half.
Wisconsin 31 Virginia 17

Tulane at BYU
The Green Wave haven’t had a good season since their undefeated mark a few years ago. The Cougars are trying to replace a legend in coach LaVell Edwards and make a much-needed bowl trip at the same time. If this game was in New Orleans, it would be much more competitive.
BYU 34 Tulane 16

North Carolina at Oklahoma
Defending national champs Oklahoma will try to win their 14th consecutive game in a row, and it’s at home, which is a good sign if you’re a Sooners fan. The Tar Heels have QB Ronald Curry and DE Julius Peppers as thier star players, but it won’t be enough as OU dominates the second half.
Oklahoma 27 North Carolina 10

Georgia Tech at Syracuse
This is the second best matchup of the weekend. The Carrier Dome is one of the toughest places to play college football, and the Orangemen are trying to get a quick start in 2001. Led by QB George Godsey, the Jackets are a legitimate national title contender. This will be a tight one, but....
Georgia Tech 31 Syracuse 27

Fresno State at Colorado
This will likely be the best matchup of the Preseason weekend for college football. FSU (I just had to do that) is one of the little know-about good teams in college football. Coach Pat Hill has quietly made Fresno State a very good team. Colorado is coming off a very disapointing year, and they hope to get off on a good foot in 2001. This game should be a good one, but the W will go to....
Colorado 24 Fresno State 21
