A LAST-SECOND LOOK AT THE PROJECTED FIELD
March 16, 2007

SCS.com The time is finally here. Today is Selection Sunday, and the Selection Show is just hours away. All week I have been in Atlanta for the SEC Tournament scouting the teams that will be in the NCAA Tournament, while also sorting through hundreds of teams to find the 65 that I think the Selection Committee will select this afternoon. So, with just a few hours left on the clock, here are my final projections as to which teams will get what seeds, who the overall number one seed will be, and who the last teams into the Tournament will be.

One Seeds (Overall Seed in parenthesis)
(1) North Carolina, (2) Memphis, (3) UCLA, (4) Kansas

Two Seeds Georgetown, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin

Three Seeds Duke, Louisville, Stanford, Xavier

Four Seeds Drake, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Connecticut

Five Seeds Butler, Clemson, Purdue, Indiana

Six Seeds Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Marquette

Seven Seeds Southern Cal, West Virginia, Texas A&M, Arkansas

Eight Seeds Oklahoma, Gonzaga, UNLV, BYU

Nine Seeds Kansas State, Mississippi State, Kent State, St. Mary’s

Ten Seeds Davidson, Miami (FL), South Alabama, Baylor

Eleven Seeds Kentucky, Arizona, Temple, St. Joseph’s

Twelve Seeds Illinois State, Oregon, Villanova, Western Kentucky

Thirteen Seeds Oral Roberts, Cornell, George Mason, San Diego

Fourteen Seeds Siena, Boise State, Winthrop, Cal State Fullerton

Fifteen Seeds Belmont, Austin Peay, UMBC, Portland State

Sixteen Seeds Mount St. Mary’s, Mississippi Valley State, Coppin State, American, Texas-Arlington

Play-In Game Texas-Arlington vs. Coppin State

Last Four In Oregon, St. Joseph’s, Illinois State, Villanova

Last Four Out Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Massachusetts

Notes to consider : The Kansas-Texas winner of today’s Big 12 Championship game will get the last number one seed, while the loser will fall the a two seed. If Georgia or Illinois were to pull an upset today, they would replace Villanova as a twelve seed, and Villanova would be the first team out of the tournament. If Northwestern State were to beat Texas-Arlington today, they would replace them in the NCAA Tournament.
