NO COLLEGE FOOTBALL? NO PROBLEM
December 8, 2006

SCS.comFor the first time since the first week of September, there will be no college football on the schedule this weekend. While the guys in pads will make a return for the postseason bowl finales in a couple weeks, this lull in the schedule gives college hoops a chance to step to the front, and a number of interesting matchups are on the slate for the next couple of days. Among the top battles are a couple of in-state showdowns, the first featuring Wisconsin and Marquette and the other pitting Gonzaga against Washington. And while there are a number of other great battles on Saturday and Sunday, don't overlook Arizona's trip northward to San Diego State. Here's a complete breakdown on all the games to keep track of in the days ahead.

[ Must-See Games in Orange ]

FRIDAY

Ohio at Louisville

Bobcats are one of the MAC's best, but UL could certainly use the win after two early losses.

Iowa State at Iowa

Both have fallen to Northern Iowa already, so neither wants to lose another in-state battle.

SATURDAY

George Mason at Duke

Patriots don't look nearly as good as last year's version, while Duke seems to be winning ugly early on.

Indiana at Kentucky

These two have combined for five early losses already, making this battle between all-time powers pretty important.

Mississippi at Memphis

Rebels have gotten off to a red-hot start under first year coach Andy Kennedy and hope to fare as well as fellow SEC member Tennessee did against the Tigers on Wednesday.

Penn State at Seton Hall

Lions seem to be making a move forward this year, while new head coach Bobby Gonzalez's Pirates have won four straight since losing the opener.

Oral Roberts at Georgetown

Quality early-December matchup between two teams with great potential, though they have been very up-and-down to date.

Missouri at Purdue

The Tigers have gotten off to a fantastic start under new coach Mike Anderson, while the Boilers have done the same thanks to new head man Matt Painter.

Wisconsin at Marquette

The intensity will be high when these two meet on Saturday, both with recent upset losses to atone for.

Texas A&M at UCLA

Aggies follow up hard-fought loss at LSU with road trip to visit the nation's best team.

Nebraska at Oregon

Huskers already claim one nice victory over in-state rival Creighton, but picking up this win in Eugene will be a much tougher task.

DePaul at UAB

Demons are feeling good again after a win over Kansas, so this will be a tough test for the Blazers and new head coach Mike Davis.

Georgia Tech at Vanderbilt

Young Tech squad has had its moments, both good and bad so far, and this will be yet another barometer for Paul Hewitt's Jackets.

George Washington at Southern Cal

Both squads have NCAA Tournament goals this spring but need RPI-building wins like this to help the case.

Wichita State at Wyoming

No team is hotter than the Shockers, but the Cowboys - who have won six of their first seven - won't go down easily.

South Carolina at Baylor

Little is expected from either of these teams in terms of postseason play, but this will be a quality win for whoever pulls it out.

Kansas State at North Dakota State

Let's give a little love to the St. Bison. They beat Wisconsin last year and Marquette last weekend, so it won't be a walk in the park for Bob Huggins' Wildcats.

Southern Illinois at Western Kentucky

The Salukis have been a consistent NCAA participant in recent years, which is what WKU is working towards as they hope to pick up this year's Sun Belt title.

Xavier at Creighton

Midwest battle features two teams who are often overlooked yet extremely talented this season.

Arizona at San Diego State

Wildcats picked up a huge win against Louisville earlier this week, now take their show to once-beaten SDSU and stars Brandon Heath and Mohamed Abukar.

Washington at Gonzaga

Zags led most of the way against WSU earlier this week but fell apart late. Can they bounce back at home against the Huskies?

UNLV at Nevada

In-state showdown features two teams who are legitimate conference title contenders in their respective leagues, not to mention NCAA threats.

SUNDAY

Maryland at Boston College

Both squads have had their ups and downs thus far, but this one is even more important since it's the ACC opener for each.

LSU at Texas

The Tigers hope to follow up their big win against Texas A&M earlier this week with a victory over the Aggies' biggest rival.
