COLLEGE HOOPS STEPS INTO THE SPOTLIGHT
December 4, 2006

SCS.com With the college football regular season behind us and the first bowl games of the year still a couple weeks away, it's time for college hoops to step into the spotlight for a few weeks. Winthrop, who has had a very impressive start to the season, will visit once-beaten Wisconsin on Monday to get things started before Oklahoma State and Syracuse get together on Tuesday. The Orange's first loss of the year came this past weekend to Wichita State, now ranked in the top ten. Other big games this week include Texas A&M-LSU, Villanova-Oklahoma, and Memphis-Tennessee.

[ Must-See Games in Orange ]

Winthrop at Wisconsin - Monday

Quality matchup between one of the country's best non-BCS teams and a squad expected to be in contention for the Big Ten title.

Southern Cal at Kansas - Monday

Jayhawks seem to take one step forward, two steps backward. USC and star Nick Young hope to continue KU's woes.

Oklahoma State at Syracuse - Tuesday

Cowboys and 'Cuse have both looked impressive early on, combining to lose just once thus far.

Northern Iowa at Iowa - Tuesday

Panthers already took down Iowa State earlier, will take their shot at 4-4 Hawkeyes now.

Texas A&M at LSU - Tuesday

One of the best early-season showdowns features two teams ranked among the top twelve in the country.

Arizona at Louisville - Tuesday

'Cats picked up a big win over Illinois this past weekend. UL, meanwhile, will be playing just their fourth game of the year with much still to prove.

Gonzaga at Washington State - Tuesday

Zags are red-hot with recent wins over North Carolina and Texas, while Cougars have had a surprising 7-1 start

Cal State-Fullerton at UCLA - Tuesday

High-scoring Titans have put more than 90 on the board four times already this year, but doing so against America's top team will certainly be tough.

Providence at Florida - Wednesday

Friars have started well with wins over BC and GW, while Gators have been inconsistent in losing two early-season contests.

NC State at West Virginia - Wednesday

Wolfpack is playing with a limited roster but has shown they won't go down easily. WVU, meanwhile, has lost their only game against a worthy opponent (Arkansas).

Villanova at Oklahoma - Wednesday

Wildcats look to have the more talented squad, but the home court in Norman makes this one of the more interesting games of the week.

Old Dominion at Virginia Tech - Wednesday

Tech hopes this is their break-through year, but picking up this win against the Monarchs, who have already taken down Georgetown, will be no easy task.

Creighton at Dayton - Wednesday

Both teams look capable of making NCAA runs this season, so a win like this helps the always-important RPI come March.

Memphis at Tennessee - Wednesday

In-state showdown between two teams with major NCAA aspirations. Tigers look to have the better squad early on but will be on the road for this one.

Alabama at Notre Dame - Thursday

Irish are high after a big road win at Maryland, while Tide is ranked among the country's top six teams thanks to a 7-0 start.
