SATURDAY'S NCAA REGIONAL NOTES
June 4, 2005

Friday's Hour-by-Hour NCAA Regional Notes

11:35 PM CST UPDATE

....Here's a look at the teams who are in the driver's seat heading into Sunday, needing only to win one of their next two games to advance to the Super Regionals: Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Rice, Clemson, Miami, Oregon State, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, Tulane, Mississippi, and Florida State.

Three games are still taking place: Long Beach State/Southern Cal, Cal State-Fullerton/Arizona, and Coastal Carolina/Arizona State.

5:55 PM CST UPDATE

....A few more games have gone final. Ohio State scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to beat Virginia 2-1 in Corvallis, eliminating the Cavaliers. Louisiana-Lafayette sent Southern packing 9-1 in the New Orleans Regional. In Atlanta, Georgia Tech moved into the driver's seat with a 10-2 win over South Carolina. The Gamecocks fall into the loser's bracket and will play Michigan for the second time in three days on Sunday.

4:50 PM CST UPDATE

....Two more games have gone final. In Coral Gables, VCU and FAU were in a pitcher's dual, but the Owls came out on top by a score of 3-1. In Clemson, Oral Roberts squandered opportunities along the way but took down North Carolina A&T 6-3.

4:35 PM CST UPDATE

....Nine games have already gone final today. In Gainesville, Florida and Stetson finally got to hit the field, and it was the Gators who scored four runs in the first three innings and went on to win 8-3. In Atlanta, Michigan scored two eighth-inning runs to pull away from Furman and win the contest 6-3. South Alabama took on Army down in Tallahassee, and it was the Golden Knights who scored eight runs in the third inning and came away with the 8-5 win. Miami (Ohio) scored in every inning but one, including a twelve-run top of the ninth, and spanked Quinnipiac 35-8. Maine put six runs on the board in the first inning and went on to eliminate Southern Miss 12-2 in Oxford. Wichita State eliminated Austin Peay 5-1 in the Knoxville Regional, while Northwestern State did the same to Marist in Baton Rouge. In a game originally scheduled for Friday, TCU downed Stanford 5-1, sending the Cardinal to the losers' bracket. NC State survived elimination, coming from behind to beat Illinois-Chicago 9-7 in Lincoln.

11:10 AM CST UPDATE

....The first games of the day are underway on time. Florida and Stetson are playing each team's first game of the Tournament in Gainesville with the score tied at 2 in the third. Furman and Michigan are underway early with no score in Atlanta. The loser of that one will be the first team eliminated.

11:00 AM CST UPDATE

....Updates will be less frequent today than Friday but will still be forthcoming throughout Saturday's action.

....Here's a quick look at this writer's uneducated opinion of today's weather situations after a brief glance at the national radar. The main problem areas look to be in the state of Florida. The Lincoln Regional could also see some problems late in the afternoon:

....CLEAR: Atlanta, Austin, Baton Rouge, Clemson, Corvallis, Fullerton, Knoxville, Long Beach, New Orleans, Oxford, Tempe, Waco

....WET: Coral Gables

....QUESTIONABLE: Gainesville, Lincoln (late afternoon), Tallahassee
