THE BESTS OF THE 2005 NCAA BASEBALL BRACKET
June 3, 2005

OUR BEST BETS

4 over 1 on Friday:

Army over Florida State: The Knights have good pitching, lost only twelve games all year, and they're soliders. Not to mention FSU is not playing their best ball.
Stetson over Florida: Not picking on the Sunshine State, but the Gators should watch out. The Hatters are on a roll and would love nothing better than taking down the big boys.
UNLV over Coastal Carolina: The Rebels were dominant in the Mountain West this year, and while I like CCU's team, how will they fare traveling cross-country as a one seed?

2 vs 3 final game:

Winthrop vs Wichita State in Knoxville: If the Vols save Hochevar for day two and fail to win, UT can call it quits. Plus, Tennessee is not a postseason-experienced club.
College of Charleston vs Oral Roberts in Clemson: I'm just not high on the Tigers at this point, but I am high on CofC. And Oral Roberts lost just two league games all season.
Mississippi State vs Florida Atlantic: The Bulldogs are rolling, while Miami is trying to regain its balance. And FAU has plenty of postseason experience, especially in Miami.

To draw a crowd:

Baton Rouge: When the Tigers play postseason baseball, the fans come out. Why else would LSU be willing to schedule their Friday game in the middle of the afternoon?
Lincoln: A Blue Jay/Husker matchup earlier this season drew over 20,000 fans. If those squads hook up once, twice or possibly 3 times, Hawks Field will be bursting at the seams.
Oxford: Reserved tickets sold out the morning they were first available, and with Southern Miss joining the Rebels up the road, Swayze Field should be "packed out."

In-state underdog spoiling a top dog's party:

College of Charleston over Clemson: I fully expect this one to happen this weekend. The Cougars are 47-13 this season and will not be intimidated in Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Southern Miss over Mississippi: The Eagles have already beaten UM once this season. And the Rebels have much to prove after going two-and-out at home a year ago.
Creighton over Nebraska: The Huskers are playing good ball, but Creighton has already proven they can handle NU, taking this year's regular season series two to one.
